Spotlight on Mirey Faema- Homeroom’s Communications Guru

Originally from Brisbane, Australia Mirey has been a member of the Homeroom Team since May 2013. She brings with her a degree in Public Relations & Journalism as well as several years of global work experience in marketing communications and as a freelance writer.

If you happen to catch her during business hours (or even after business hours) you will often find her staring at her computer the way a regular person would stare at a lover as she trawls the internet for the latest online marketing information, social media trends and funny cat videos.

When she is not at Homeroom Mirey likes to snowboard, travel to exotic locations and try to get backstage at festivals.

How would you describe yourself?

Blonde hair, blue eye’s, 5″6… Ok I will be serious.

I would describe myself as a goofy, nerdy, music obsessed, social media addict.

What is your favorite thing about working at Homeroom?

I love the ladies I work with, they make everyday fun and interesting. I also enjoy the flexibility and the fact that I am doing what I love which is helping small business owners grow their business.

What are your ultimate personal goals?

I would love to write a book one day…that would be neat.

Be a guest host on Saturday night live.

And most importantly become a Canadian Resident.

Why do you love communications so much?

I am a very analytical  person so I really enjoy analyzing a business and their target audiences then figuring out the best way for them to communicate with their clients, staff and community. Each group requires a different message and method of communication so this makes the job very interesting for me.

If you had one piece of advice for small business owners what would it be?

Don’t forget that everyone you come into contact with is a stakeholder in your business and needs to be treated well and communicated with effectively if you want to grow.

Even that delivery driver who repeatedly screws up your order and drives you insane has the ability to post negative feedback about you all over the internet and tell every person they come into contact with how terrible you are as a business owner.

So make sure you are always tactful and remain calm when communicating (even with people who are making your life difficult) and don’t let your emotions control the way you communicate…unless of course you are spreading the love then by all means gush away 🙂

Describe your ultimate client?

I love working with people who are excited to explore creative new ways to communicate and market their business.

The reason I love working with small business owners so much is because unlike large corporations you aren’t restricted by corporate branding requirements and a legal team. This means that you can really push the limits of your online personality and get more involved in face-to-face communications within the community.
